Oh What a Night

Oh what an amazing night
What an amazing night at Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries. Celebrating the Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, recognizing the excellent businesses in our area of Dumfries and Galloway. I was delighted to be nominated and a finalist for one of these prestige awards.

You see so many businesses winning awards and shouting out to the world their amazing achievement "Best Small Business" or "Best Family Business"  I wanted a piece of the action. The Chamber of Commerce posted on LinkedIn Business Award nominations now open, this made me think, why don`t I enter, I`m passionate about our business, love our area, promote it on social media, surely I could win an award.

I`ve never done this before and it`s certainly a first, but definitely not a last. So I downloaded the entry form and set of on my first award journey.

Best Outstanding Tourism Business was the category I aimed for, just sticking with one I thought for my first venture, promoting Moffat and the surrounding area, with our beautiful countryside and scenic views, there`s no better place for a peaceful walk, exercise and tranquility. It`s what I do best on social media, if I`m not busy in our B&B, you`ll find me in the hills and countryside telling the world what a fantastic place we live in.

I was delighted to make the final for the Outstanding Tourism Business Award, along with the Buccleuch Arms and Mostly Ghostly.

The competition was tough, with two other great business I wasn`t confident I would win, but on the 1st April I put on my glad rags and along with the Buccleuch Arms and Nicola and Morgan from Moffat SUP hire we all headed down to Easterbrook Hall for a night of entertainment, food, fun and drinks, but above all winning awards.

We were greeted at the door with a piper, there was a buzz in the air as businesses from all over Dumfries and Galloway descended on the unique venue, with welcome drinks and lot`s of chat it was certainly going to be a night to remember.

  • 7.30 pm Dinner is Served
  • 9.00 pm DG Business Awards

Dinner was delicious with a Ham Hock Terrine, Pea Puree and Pea Shoots to start, followed by Roast Topside of Beef, Dauphinoise Potatoes & a medley of Vegetables, Rich Red Wine Jus,  then finishing with a Trio of Desserts, Chocolate Marquise, Lemon Tart & Vanilla Ice Cream.

9.00 pm the award ceremony started with 12 awards to be presented, the judges had a very hard time narrowing down the many applications to the 32 finalists that where there on the night.

As my category came I was slightly nervous and was keeping everything crossed that I`d be the winner, but with such great competition it was the remarkable Mostly Ghostly that took the award, they are wonderful, friendly and well deserved winners, a bit disappointed it`s certainly given me the confidence to try again and one day I will win an award for our business, you just have to keep trying.

Moffat did however have winners, Nicola and Morgan won the award for Most Promising New Business with their Moffat SUP hire,  and the Buccleuch won two awards Outstanding Customer Service and Outstanding Family Business, I`m proud to have a business in such an amazing part of Dumfries and Galloway and I`m looking forward to many successful years, I`ve got a few things planned for the coming months ahead, keep an eye out on social media.
